NEEDLE IN THE HAY

art director / jen chloher / 2015

This project came to life after local musicians Jen Cloher and Courtney Barnett reached out to collaborate on the music video for Needle in the Hay. It was one of my first experiences handling a project for a client from concept to delivery.

FEMME SPACE NO.1

VICTORIAN COLLEGE OF THE ARTS GRAD SHOW | 2014

This work is the first in a series of explorations inspired by my experiences walking through Ikea-style showrooms and feeling the urge to infuse these mass-produced, often generic spaces with a more personal touch. I started by creating 1:20 scale models to experiment with different colors and arrangements. The full-scale installation is both an expression and celebration of femininity and domestic space, which led me to dive deeper into this theme using video technology, as showcased in FEMMESPACE No. 2.

FEMME SPACE NO.2

VICTORIAN COLLEGE OF THE ARTS GRAD SHOW | 2014

In FEMMESPACE No. 1, I stripped back elements to emphasise its core themes. At the center, a suspended TV displays a video self-portrait, reflecting my experiences as a young woman. In the video, pink paint gradually pours over my hair and face, slowly covering my features—a visual expression of suffocation imposed by external forces. By reconfiguring the space, I was able to focus on the more raw and compelling aspects of femininity that surfaced in the original installation.

LUV SEAT

VICTORIAN COLLEGE OF THE ARTS | 2014

I transformed an old bus seat by reupholstering it in vibrant pink and red fluffy fabric, creating a “love seat” with space for two. Placed at a tram stop that lacked seating, this piece invites passersby to take a playful pause together in a spot that’s typically overlooked. The reimagined seat blends functionality with a touch of romance and humour, adding warmth and personality to an otherwise ordinary public space.
